A citizen’s view —
Hooray! Most of us have survived both the virus, and the election.
Life is not easy when we divide ourselves the way we do, some of us believe the science, some believe the storyteller.
Some folks think we do not much affect the climate, while another bunch of us thinks that we do.
Some of us study what makes us live, some of us study what kills us dead.
Bulbs that grow beautiful blooms, bombs that kill us when they go boom! We are as diverse as this, there is no wonder we struggle to get us to come to the center of the room.
It is there where we might communicate the considerations around our intentions.
It is there where we might see each other is magic and make a heartfelt effort to listen to the stories that have shaped each of our lives.
Maybe I’m just naïve, a guy who does not know the difference between birds and bees, but I still think we are a whole bunch of you and me. Yeah, we have our differences, about that we can certainly agree, crazy as that is, it is just you and me being we. It really is not that difficult to see. It is a complication that we are as diverse as we are, but it beats the heck out of being like bugs in a jar.
It is only in America where we can be this free. Yes, we have to pay for what we eat, and a doctor for care, and the roads that we drive on, and the dams that bring the power to our flat screen TVs! Oh yeah, we have to pay the pilots that blast our enemies to smithereens, and we have to pay the crews that man the submarines, and pretty soon we have spent way more than we have got.
The teachers need their pay, the farmers, plumbers, fisherman, carpenters, and pothole filler all need to have a say, and so it is in this incredibly complex country. We are like a whole bunch of cool cats that want our own personal space; we have a tough time communicating face to face. We yowl and scowl and growl and prowl around trying to prove what we believe is right ... Yeah, we have much to be upset about, and we do have the freedom to stand up and shout, and most of the time it does not lead us to a bout.
No, for as many challengers as we face, I would not trade this for any other place. Sometimes I think our eyes are wide shut, that we are just trying to figure out what, how to convince them of our righteousness, or how stupid we are for thinking the way we do? There are lots of questions between me and you, normally we would debate in a public space, but this dang COVID has slapped us in the face, so we should be satisfied that we just huddled and muddled through.
Congratulations to me, you, you, and you. Now, let us just believe what is most likely to be true.
