La Conner pony takes big strides from humble beginning

Tinkerbell, a polo pony with an unusual name for a boy and an extraordinary talent, was on the field in La Conner last weekend for the annual Governor’s Cup Polo Tournament.

The 5-year-old Tinkerbell was born at George Dill’s farm on La Conner Whitney Road.

His dam, Sarah, was a polo pony that had become blind. Dill the circuit governor of the Pacific Northwest Circuit and owner of polo grounds at La Conner, lets horses that some other owners might consider “useless” live out their days as long as they are pain free and can still enjoy life. “We honor their careers,” he said.

According to Dill, Tinkerbell got his start when old blind Sarah broke out of her stall one day and resident stallion John John took note. “She got pregnant,” Dill said.
