Boo-tiful downtown parade highlights kids' Halloween

It’s okay to feel scared and spooky in La Conner next Tuesday.

In fact, it’s encouraged.

That’s because Oct. 31 is Halloween, one of area residents’ favorite celebrations and the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season.

The fun starts with the La Conner Parent-Teacher-Student Association costumed parade on First Street, at 3 p.m., after school. Parade participants are to meet immediately beforehand at the La Conner Marina south basin parking lot.

The festive walking serpentine will start at the corner of First and State streets and proceed through the downtown business district, with trick-or-treating on the walk back.

Children in the parade must be accompanied by an adult.

Following the parade, trunk-or-treat opportunities are scheduled at Swinomish and Shelter Bay.

The Swinomish trunk-or-treat runs from 4-5 p.m. at John K. Bob Ball Park with a Halloween party following from 5-8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in the tribal gymnasium. Swinomish Village trick-or-treating is slotted between 5 and 6 p.m.

The Shelter Bay trunk-or-treat time is from 5-7 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the community clubhouse.

It promises to be a spook-tacular Halloween on both sides of the channel.
