Golf champ Emma Worgum makes spring debut with WWU

Former La Conner High School state golf title winner Emma Worgum is back on the links after a superb fall freshman season with the Western Washington University women's team.

Worgum and the Lady Vikings placed ninth out of 15 teams entered in the spring opener Fujikura Invitational Tournament hosted by Cal State-San Marcos in Vista, CA. earlier in March.

Worgum tied for the second best finish on her team and was 40th overall by carding a two-day score of 160, shooting 80 (8 over par) each round.

Cal State-Monterey was the tourney victor while WWU edged Sonoma State by three strokes to finish ninth.

Worgum closed out the fall campaign by being named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for Oct. 24-30 for having tied for second at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Tournament at the University of Hawaii-Hilo.

Worgum's scored 69, three under par, in her opening round at the Rose tourney which put her atop the leaderboard. That score tied the second-best round in WWU women's golf program history.

The 69 matched her final round in the 2022 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state girls' 2B/1B golf tournament. She recorded a 75-69 (144) at the state finals as a senior, capturing top honors by a wide 17-stroke margin.

Worgum and Western followed up their spring inaugural with a 10th place team finish at the Pack Classic in Pueblo, Colorado last week. Worgum tied for 29th at 155 strokes, finishing in the top half of the field.

The Lady Vikings resume play April 3 at the Sonoma State Intercollegiate Tournament in Santa Rosa, California.
