Potpouri of library happenings

Construction Update

Construction on the new La Conner Swinomish Library is moving steadily toward an expected completion this summer! You may have noticed the large bay windows which were installed last week. They will allow natural light to pour into our sitting area as guests relax with a good book in our comfy armchairs. You may have also noticed that Tiger Construction has begun installing the siding, which will protect our new library from the elements.

It is exciting to see the plans in the architectural drawings taking form. While the outside construction is drawing closer to completion, work is also steadily progressing on the interior elements, such as electrical, HVAC and plumbing.

Library Giving Day

Our library is proud to be among the 400+ libraries that participated in #Library Giving Day, April 6. This special day of giving reminds us that libraries serve as cornerstones of our communities. In addition to well-loved books, our new La Conner Swinomish Library will offer programs to promote lifelong learning, connect patrons to technology and advance knowledge.

Thank you to our local library lovers and friends who have made a gift that will help furnish the new library. Our current total raised is almost $25,000!

Donations to the Library Giving Day campaign can be made through the end of April, online at www.laconnerlibraryfoundation.org or mailed to La Conner Library Foundation, PO Box 1025, La Conner, WA 98257.

Thank you to our community for being champions for libraries, especially our new La Conner Swinomish Library!

New Books

We are always adding new books to the library collection, including new kids books! We have new Pokémon and Minecraft books and we encourage suggestions from all our young patrons. We love it when you read! If you are looking for a book and we don’t have it yet, please let us know!

Program Updates

Winter Reads Bingo! ended the first of the month. This program aimed to entice readers to try different genres and authors. Players who read five books for a “bingo” earned a refreshment at either Beaver Tales, or Stompin’ Grounds. Of the people who read 25 books to achieve a Blackout on their bingo card, we chose, at random, three winners who received gift certificates to Seaport Books. Those winners are: Richard Doerflinger, Nicole Garcia-Swanson and Barbara McQueen. Don’t forget to claim your prize! Thanks to everyone who participated!

April is Poetry Month and there are still a few days left to submit your poem and be entered into our drawing for a refreshment from the La Conner Coffee Company. Poetry makes every day a little brighter. We would love to hear one of your poems!
