ICE CREAM AND AUCTIONS – Community members finally got to remove their masks and socialize amongst themselves on St. Patrick’s Day in Maple Hall. Selling almost all its ice cream and silent auction items made the event a success for the Chamber of Commerce, too. – Photo by Heather Carter

“I’m seeing a lot of faces I haven’t seen in a long time,” said La Conner Chamber of Commerce board member Tami Mason of Washington Federal as she scooped ice cream last Thursday.

From the banter and bonhomie in Maple Hall, it was clear that everyone else attending the chamber’s ice cream social shared her sentiment.

About 150 familiar—and maskless!—faces greeted one another over ice cream and toppings, browsed displays and silent auction baskets, and enjoyed toe-tapping Irish music played by members of the Skagit Symphony.

Joining the meet and greet were the Kiwanis, Rotary and Soroptimists, the Skagit County Historical Museum, the La Conner Library, Sunrise Food Bank, and Skagit Transit.

At the Civic Garden Club table, Kim Good Rubenstein and Reinhild Thompson chatted up passersby about the 72-year old club.

At the MONA table, Emlyn and Elsie Goodman made magnets sporting climate-friendly tips while parents Kim and Tim stood nearby.

Kara Stamback and her kids came for the ice cream and stayed for the music and the crowd. For someone whose love for connecting with others has been thwarted these last two years, Stamback found the opportunity to connect with people in the room the best dish of all.

“I’m happier than a fish in water here!” she said.
