The Price was right for the La Conner Braves against Darrington Thursday night.

As in right on the mark.

Team scoring leader Isaiah Price scored 32 points – 21 in the second half – to pace the Braves in a convincing 62-35 league triumph at Landy James Gym.

Price drained three perimeter treys after the break and might have done even more damage if the game was not stopped early after an official collapsed on the court in the fourth quarter.

“It sounds like he’s going to be okay,” a relieved La Conner head coach C.J. Woods said of the fallen referee. “We wish him and his family all the best. The most important thing is his health and safety.”

It was certainly a healthy outing for Price and the Braves.

“Isaiah had another fantastic game,” Woods said of Price, who scored 18 points two nights earlier against 1A Meridian, a 77-47 La Conner non-conference setback.

“With the (Darrington) game cut short,” said Woods, “Isaiah might have been close to or around the 40-point range.”

La Conner (4-7 overall; 2-3 in NW2B standings) continues to make strides after a slow start due to injury and illness.

“We’re starting to come together and learn how everyone works best,” Woods said. “With depth and time together, this team is poised to hopefully make a run.”

That certainly seemed the case Jan. 20 in the game played before limited spectators, the result of a two-week sports events attendance policy designed to curb spread of COVID-19.

Price was supported by six other players on the point parade.

Cameron Burks chipped in seven points, all in the first period, while Miles Sydzik and Ivory Damien added six points apiece for the victors.

Sydzik’s point total came from a pair of deep treys.

Spencer Olson collected five points and like Burks, delivered a three-pointer in the opening frame.

Josh Denton and Mason Wilson netted three points each.

La Conner now finds itself in the midst of a pivotal week in the NW2B/1B playoff chase, starting with last night’s trip to Friday Harbor.

The Braves travel Friday to Orcas Island and Saturday to Mount Vernon Christian. Tipoff at Orcas is 6 p.m. The pairing with MVC is at 4:30 p.m.

“I like our chances,” Woods said, “and if we compete the right way, every game should be competitive.”

La Conner returns home Feb. 1 for a 7 p.m. matchup with Concrete.

Still, Woods’ thoughts were equally split between his team’s prospects and recovery of the official who collapsed.

“In the mix of everything going on,” said Woods, “it was a good reminder to tell those that you love and care for how much you mean to us. We wish him the best.”
