Happy New Year! The La Conner Regional Library is very excited for 2022.

New Library Construction

Construction is moving right along for the new La Conner Swinomish Library. The foundation and footings have been poured and the walls will be going up in February. The foundation work for the new library has seemed an apt metaphor for all the work so many have been lending hands to for many years.

An endless array of vital behind the scenes work and project detail have been necessary before the structure can be seen. As the completed goal comes into view in 2022, it will bring many benefits to our community. The space in which people will gather, connect and enjoy will afford new opportunities for everyone.

We hope you walk or drive by often and enjoy the visible progress. We expect completion this summer.

Community support for our new library has been the building block of this project. Gifts of any amount to the La Conner Library Foundation are always welcome and can be made in person at the library, online at laconnerlibraryfoundation.org or by calling Foundation director Susan Macek at 360-466-3352.

Looking ahead, the Foundation is planning a virtual presentation in late February about solar energy, with a focus on the rooftop system planned for the new library. Western Solar and the La Conner Weekly News are joining with the Foundation to present this community program. Stay tuned for details!

Winter Reads Bingo

Our Winter Reading Bingo is in full swing! This is a fun way to break out of reading ruts and explore new material. You can get a bingo sheet at the library through our curbside service or print one off our website.

Anyone who completes the bingo challenge will receive a certificate for a treat at either Stompin’ Grounds or Beaver Tales here in La Conner. While this program is aimed at adults, younger readers are welcome to participate. Completed bingo sheets will be accepted at the library until April 1st.

Here’s how it works:

Each square on the card specifies a book genre, author, or idea. Print and eBooks are welcome and the goal is to read five books enabling you to mark off a column or row. Bingo! Bring your completed sheet to the library and exchange it for your prize (one per player, please).

But that is not all! Keep playing and complete a bingo black-out and you will be entered into a raffle for a Winter Reads reward at Seaport Books here in La Conner. Three winners will be drawn after the program concludes in April.

Fair is library’s director.
