It is certain, but not yet certified: residents have elected Ivan Carlson, Rick Dole and MaryLee Chamberlain to La Conner's town council. With 50 votes left to count, Carlson leads Councilmember John Leaver by 111 votes and Dole is 56 votes ahead of Councilmember Bill Stokes. Chamberlain has maintained her 200-plus margin against Glen Johnson. Her reelection was certain election night, Nov. 2. Nine La Conner ballots were among the 775 tallied by Skagit County elections office staff Nov. 9-10.
All greater La Conner area election positions are decided; only the final ballot counts remain. Returned to the La Conner school board are Amanda Bourgeois, J.J. Wilbur and Susan Deyo. John Doyle is now an elected Fire District 13 commissioner.
Carlson and Dole join Annie Taylor as new faces on council in 2022. Taylor was chosen Tuesday by the council in a 3-1 vote to fill the seat vacated by Jacques Brunisholz in August, when he resigned.
The final votes will be counted Nov. 23, the day county officials certify all results and send the totals to the Washington secretary of state. That office will certify all elections by Dec. 2.
The 445 votes cast in the Carlson-Leaver race make it the highest municipal turnout in La Conner's history, 29 votes more than the total in the Ramon Hayes-Stuart Welch mayoral contest in 2011.
In the Anacortes mayor’s race, Councilmember Mike Miller will be the next mayor, defeating Councilmember Ryan Walters. Miller led 4,068 votes to 4,272, with 51.1% of the vote after Wednesday’s ballot count.
