Candidates for Pos. 1 council vacancy- Annie Taylor

October 27, 2021

Years in La Conner and why applied

I moved to La Conner in September of 2013. I was asked by a few people in town to apply for the vacated position on town council. Giving it much thought, knowing I would have to find someone to cover my well-attended yoga classes on Tuesday nights when the town council gathers, I decided to apply. I do feel I would bring a unique voice to the group.

Community involvement; successes

I have been a member of La Conner’s Parks Commission since 2017, making Conner Park a welcome attraction and working to make the newly acquired Maple Avenue Park - Hedlin Park fulfill town’s requests from the returned surveys.

My position on the Parks Commission has given me perspective on how the opinions and preferences of local residents align – or don’t – with town’s priorities and resources.

I have been a member of the 1st on First committee since 2020, working to increase tourism and sales to businesses.

I am a graduate and volunteer on the Stewardship of the Salish Sea, a group that is focused on learning about the marine environment and the different volunteer opportunities to help make a difference in our waterways and local environmental issues.

Policies to champion

Position One of Town Council presides on the boards of Long Range Planning, Utilities, WAB and Flood Control. These will be my main concerns.

Representing residents

I will make myself available to town residents. I will listen to their concerns and issues while working to be sure I am making intelligent decisions regarding the best possible approach to move our town forward in a fiscally responsible and appropriate manner. Communication with citizens, department heads and other involved governmental agencies would be an important part of my service.
