The La Conner High School volleyball team is not used to losing. Not even a single set.
But it lost last week’s slate of matches due to COVID-19 protocols.
Winners of the 2018 and 2019 State 2B net crowns and among the favorites to capture this year’s Yakima tourney, the team is poised to make up for lost time.
Head coach Suzanne Marble’s undefeated squad is scheduled for six matches and an invitational tournament over a 12-day stretch starting with Monday’s Sept. 27 NW2B clash at Concrete.
With coaches not allowed to comment publicly on COVID-19 issues due to privacy protections, Marble instead sounded an upbeat note about returning to the court this week.
“We are back on,” she told the Weekly News on Saturday, “and play Monday through Thursday this week.”
La Conner followed its trip to Concrete with another away conference match at Orcas Island on Tuesday.
The Lady Braves, 2-0 entering the week, visit Mount Vernon Christian tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m.
The team resumes league action at home with Darrington Oct. 5, with the start time still to be announced. La Conner entertains Coupeville 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 and has re-scheduled its much-anticipated non-conference match at Glacier Peak – a temporary casualty of COVID-19 precautions –7 p.m. Oct. 7.
The team travels to Olympia Oct. 9 for what is always a highly competitive tourney bracket featuring teams from larger enrollment schools.
