Library update: construction coming

Construction Update

The La Conner Library is excited to announce Tiger Construction is mobilizing to the site of the new La Conner Swinomish Library and demolition of the Thrift Shop is expected this week. This is an exciting step forward in a series of highly visible progress on the new library.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.29. The community is invited to this long anticipated event. The site will be blessed by the Swinomish Tribe and county and state representatives have been invited to take part.

Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading has come to an end. Children’s Specialist Katryna Barber held a variety of fun and educational programs focused on the use of color in our daily lives. There were activities with rainbows, prisms and color blending, which helped children better understand how light and color interact. The Friends of the Library generously sponsored gift certificates to Seaport Books for children who finished their reading logs and brought them into the library. It was a great way to celebrate a summer of reading!

Back to School

The La Conner Library joined other organizations present at the annual La Conner School District Braves Day at the high school. Staff answered questions about library resources, programs and research materials available at the library. There was a selection of free books to take home for all ages. It was great to see so many happy students ready to return to classes.
