URGENT: Heat will be record breaking starting Friday

The National Weather Service issued a “Long-Duration, Record-Breaking Heat Event” from its Seattle office Wednesday. Its excessive heat watch remains in effect from Friday afternoon through Monday evening. Their Thursday, June 24 update calls for “dangerously hot conditions with afternoon highs in the 90s and near 100 possible Saturday through Monday.”

They predict the impact on humans to be high Friday and extreme Saturday and Sunday and “will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.”

They forecast “overnight lows during this time frame will only cool off into the 60s and lower 70s and thus will not offer much in the way of cooling.”

Preparation and actions to take include drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors. They repeat their warning to never leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
