A fond farewell, not goodbye

SAYING GOODBYE IS HARD TO DO – Ginger Olson had close and personal relationships with her “co-workers,” the equipment that surrounded her and she depended on at Tillinghast Postal & Business Center. She hugged her friend Harley goodbye when he was replaced last February. Now Olson is also leaving, saying goodbye to all her co-workers, customers and friends. – Photo courtesy of Christi King

There are times in life when you just know “it was meant to be.” Ginger Olson, for the last 8+ years, provided business services and more at Tillinghast Postal & Business Center. When Lucy Kelly decided to sell the business to us last December, Ginger had every intention to also leave and prepare for a move to Wyoming with her husband Randy.

When Christi came into the store to meet Ginger and start training with Lucy, they both instantly recognized their similarities and their wonderful friendship began! Christi used to tease Ginger when customers would ask how long she was going to be staying, saying “she has decided she isn’t leaving.” Thankfully, Ginger stayed through April and blessed Christi and the community with four additional months.

Unique does not adequately describe Ginger! In a business center such as Tillinghast, there are computers, printers and other pieces of equipment that the business depends on. To Ginger, these were her co-workers, each one having a distinct personality and name assigned accordingly. Ginger not only talked to herself as she worked, but she also talked to each of her inanimate co-workers. You often would hear “you little pot licker” when a co-worker would misbehave or give her trouble. Each evening, as Ginger would prepare to go home, she would talk to each one telling them goodnight and then shutting down their power.

In February, when Christi purchased a new printer, Ginger helped “Harley” the existing printer understand that he was appreciated, would be missed, but it was time for him to go.

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel, nor the appreciation I have for my new sister from another mother. It is so hard to watch both Randy and Ginger leave my daily life and our beautiful community, but it also warms my heart that they are finding their way back home and building their dream house on “Ginger Lane.”

A very fond farewell indeed Ginger and Randy. We all love and will miss you!
