Pretty cool place

February 3, 2021

Alright, so what if I occasionally slobber on my sleeve, I make sure I leave before I sneeze! That’s just one small reason why we were named the coolest little town in North America. Besides that, we have lots of other cool things here. There’s the Bridge, duh, and two really cool Salmon structures in the new and improved Conner Park.

I’d like to give my kudos to the characters who keep repairing the cement sculpture. Of course we have a pretty cool boardwalk that attracts us to the downtown shops, and the eateries that sate our tastebuds. Sunsets and surprises are pretty cool from up the bridge where our new lights shine.

Of course the Channel is pretty cool too, with tides and boats sloshing back and forth. Then there’s some pretty cool characters that cast their shadow sometimes, authors, artists and such. There’s a pretty cool mountain in the background, of a picture full of ducks, geese and swans, not to mention the hundreds of hawks, falcons and eagles around and about.

The Skagit River and Bay reaches tenderly into our innards, feeding us with fish, crab, clams, oysters and occasionally an urchin. No, it’s a pretty cool little town alright, but we used to have salmon and smelt in the Channel. We used to draw musicians like Bonnie Raitt and John Mayall to town, now we have no music anywhere, even when we have big empty fields everywhere.

Sorry folks, I see what once was, and try to make us even cooler yet.

We could have classes up at Pioneer Park, the three hats, Gilkey Square, the museum the soccer and football fields. Yeah, we could have classes in the gyms and auditorium and in Maple Hall. We have all the space to keep socially distanced, and the weather isn’t so nasty as to be a complete deterrent.

I see plenty of kids walking in the rain, skateboarding in the wind, we are cool because we are, we’re not known anymore for being pickled in a jar.

Sincerely,

Glen. S. Johnson
