Gilday mailing ‘dirty politics’

October 14, 2020

I am appalled at the recent flyers that have been arriving via the mail, trashing Angie Homola, candidate for the 10th Legislative District. Apparently her opponent Greg Gilday does not have the fortitude to stand behind these tactics, so the flyers are being sent by a shady Republican group out of Bellevue.

The flyers claim that Homola was fired from Island County Planning Department because of hostility and poor performance. That is, at best, a gross misrepresentation. I have known Angie for years, and at the time Angie was working diligently to assist the Ebey’s Landing historical review committee (HRC) come up with better guidelines for historic preservation. Angie’s boss did not like the direction the HRC was taking and asserted that Angie was not following orders. The actions of the citizen group were far beyond her control.

Despite doing as instructed, she was harassed by the county hierarchy and forced out. In short, she was railroaded. That was 17 years ago. Since then she has been elected as an Island County Commissioner. Her old personnel record (which should have remained sealed) has enough detail that, if one does not look at the whole story, could be and is being unfairly used against her. This is dirty politics, and Gilday should be ashamed.

In truth, Angie was and is a dedicated public servant and is being viciously targeted. She is bright, energetic, empathetic and has a strong work ethic. She is by far the best voice for the environment that we could have working for us in the 10th LD. Please join me in supporting Angie Homola to represent us in Olympia.
