Over 300 adults came out on a blustery Saturday to pay to sample and vote for their favorite chowder at the La Conner Kiwanis 21st Annual Chowder Feed at the La Conner Elementary School. While La Conner students were the big winner – all proceeds go to scholarships, the Braves After School Club and other school programs – the popular winner, voted by tasters, was the Swinomish Casino and Lodge.

The Shrimp Shack, on SR 20, took second place followed by the Skagit River Brewery in Mount Vernon. Also serving up their exclusive chowder recipes were La Conner Retirement Inn, Nell Thorn, The Farmhouse, Billie’s and La Conner Pub & Eatery. Each eatery donates their chowder. The winner gets a trophy.

The silent auction, with items donated from almost all the businesses in and beyond the town, brought in additional funds.

“All the participants have our most grateful thanks, as we couldn’t do this without you,” Pat Clausen, club president, emailed.
