To my dear friends of La Conner:
It is fitting that I ended my seven-month odyssey of chemotherapy and radiation a few days ago, just as the season of Thanksgiving is beginning.
As you can imagine, my gratitude list is long.
Because when I had to face the tedious, long and seemingly never-ending treatments that began after a cancer diagnosis in early May, you have been right by my side.
You brought me meals; you sat with me during the 21-day cycle of chemotherapy; you said prayers for me and over me; you massaged my tired body; you made me laugh; you cried with me; and you donated your money, your time and your energy – many of you to someone you hardly knew.
I never felt alone, nor was I ever scared, because you rallied around me from minute one. You shaved your head with me when I didn’t feel brave enough to do it alone, you delivered meals when I didn’t have the energy to cook and you gifted me with presents and flowers and your company – just when I needed them the most.
I felt loved, protected and provided for as you wrapped me in your warm embrace, your kind words and your heartfelt prayers.
Cancer has a tendency to scare people who have to face it, but I knew that with my community standing behind me, cancer didn’t stand a chance.
So it is with deep gratitude that I thank you, from the bottom of my joyful heart, because we have successfully kicked cancer to the curb!
Thank you, La Conner, for saving my life.
Lovingly,
Katie Kramer
