Get involved in government

Dear Editor:

Every election is important, and our government depends on the quality of the candidates, we elect.

Want better government? Become involved, volunteer for committees, and/or file for public office!

You may wish to review the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution, for all elected officials swear to uphold the latter upon election. Also, knowing about the U.S. Constitution can help get one elected.

It would help to understand the role of government, as well; i.e. Article 1, Section 1, Washington State Constitution says governments “are established to protect and maintain individual rights”. It also reminds us “All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

If you don’t believe you are ready for public office, you may wish to be a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO). Never heard of PCOs?

Both major political parties have PCOs: They’re “grass-roots,” and the basis of our national party structure; i.e. a good place to learn and shape this country.

Our government depends on the quality of the public officials we elect. Be involved.

Filing dates for all public officials, including PCOs, are May 14-18.
