Noted local therapy dog Lukas Simba Maxwell died last week, ending his joyful life in service.

Lucas was trained with Skagit County and Whatcom County Search and Rescue Canine Teams. He earned a Tracking Dog Excellent distinction from the American Kennel Club and was trained in National Association of Canine Nosework. He was also a registered Pet Partners Animal Assisted Therapy Dog for Anacortes School District Reading Programs.

Lukas enjoyed visiting and bringing smiles and laughter to Assisted Living Facilities and Skilled Nursing Facilities and was a member of Anacortes Dogs-On-Call.

In La Conner he was known as a reading therapy dog at La Conner Regional Library, a role he also filled at Anacortes Public Library.

Lukas was also a loyal, steadfast and loving companion to his human, Pamelia Maxwell.
