ELIZABETH CHAMBERLAIN

Elizabeth Chamberlain died Thurs., March 26, at the age of 102.

She was born Sept. 8, 1912 in Lancaster, PA, the third of nine children.

Elizabeth enjoyed amazingly good health all her long life and lived independently for 15 years at Harbor Villa apartments in La Conner until two months before her death.

In La Conner she was affec-tionately known as “Wren,” a name she called herself as she was fond of the little birds. She loved walking down the main street, visiting with the shopkeepers and watching the boats in the Swinomish Channel.

An artist in her early life, she graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and spent many of her later years writing and illustrating children’s stories that have delighted many children, including her seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was lovingly known as “story lady” at the preschool, where she worked for many years. She is survived by her daughters Ann Emanuels of Inverness, CA and Nikki Cummings of Chehalis, and her son Marty Chamberlain of Bow.

Her friends at Harbor Villa held a small remembrance recep-tion last week. The family plans to schedule a celebration of Elizabeth’s life in La Conner in the fall.
