During boardwalk construction last Wednesday, July 16, a steel piling fell over, crushing a pickup owned by the town. Nobody was in the truck, and there were no injuries. La Conner Mayor Ramon Hayes said an apparent equipment malfunction caused the mishap. The job was shut down for a couple of days while the problem was investigated, and everything is back on track and on schedule, Hayes said. – Photo by Don Coyote
