LYLA LOUISE SCHOENBERG 1921-2014

La Conner resident Lyla Louise Schoenberg died in her sleep at age 92 in Anacortes, early Sunday morning, January 19.

She was the seventh child in a family of 10 and was born Lyla Thompson in McKenzie, North Dakota in 1921.

Lyla moved to Spokane in the 1930’s, living with her sister Arrah. She graduated from North Central High School in 1939, and while at North Central, she met Jim Schoenberg and married him on June 28, 1941 in St. Aloysius Church.

Jim and Lyla raised their family of six children in Spokane, and after their retirement, the couple moved to Allyn, WA living in a home Jim built.

After Jim’s death in 1998, Lyla moved to Mount Vernon, and then to La Conner.

She is survived by her brother Harold Thompson, her sister Erma Winteroth, her four daughters, Sus, Cathy, Sally and Amy, and her two sons, Ron and Bob. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday at the La Conner Retirement Inn.
