“Charlie” “Chuck”

1944-2013

Charles F. Elde, who most people knew as “Charlie” or “Chuck,” a life-long resident of La Conner, died on Tuesday, December 24.

He was born in Mount Vernon on November 21, 1944 to Charles Tage and Hazel Elde.

He attended La Conner Schools and graduated from La Conner High School in 1963. He also attended Skagit Valley Community College and Pacific Lutheran University.

After college, he returned to La Conner to farm with his father on the Elde Family Farm, where he farmed for over 40 years. Chuck loved farming and living in Skagit County. During the off-season, he enjoyed truck driving for Skagit Valley Trucking, and then he went on to work for Arne Svendsen Trucking for 20 years.

Chuck enjoyed serving his community in many ways including his 24-year service as a Drainage District 15 Commissioner. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in La Conner.


Chuck is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathy, and his two sons and their families: Michael and his wife Becki and their daughter Allison, and Steven and his wife Emily and their son Nolan. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jafari, Veronica, Bonnie, Sandy and the entire caring iron infusion team along with the compassionate staff of Skagit Valley Hospital.

A funeral mass was on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Conner. The family requests memorial donations be made in memory of Chuck to the McLean Road Fire District, 15452 Beaver Marsh Road, Mount Vernon 98273, Sacred Heart Church Youth Group, P.O. Box 757, La Conner, WA 98257, or to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
