    Last Saturday over 75 folks gathering for another poetry reading at Pelican Bay Books in Anacortes, part of the Madrona Last Saturday Series of readings that continues through May. This night, ten poets read their poems included in “Art In A Public Voice,” just released by Empty Bowl Press. It includes work by 54 writers inspired by a visual work of art owned by the public.     The Skagit County History Museum talk, “Smugglers, Rumrunners and Pirates” by local historian Dr. Jesse Kennedy III is March 19, 2-4 p.m. at Skagit City School.     Two new exhibits open March 1 at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum: Maria Shell’s “Visual Aesthetic” and “170 Years of Flowers: Pieces from the Permanent Collection,” curated by Brian Nigus and Carla Schultz-Parks.     There was a time I would gag cooking and eating parsnips. I avoided them for years and years. They grow locally here in Skagit Valley and my preference is fresh local organic produce. I used more olive oil than normal. They simply soaked up the oil and three tablespoons were used. The smoky paprika added a bit of flavor as well as dried sage from our garden.     Sunday, February 19 8:21 p.m.: Stolen vehicle found – Sheriff's deputies recovered a stolen vehicle under the Twin Bridges. Drugs and stolen mail were also recovered from inside the vehicle.
