Zaira Najera-Davalos, a La Conner High School senior, is the Soroptimist International of La Conner Honored Student for the month of October.

Zaira is a busy young woman both at school and home. She is the executive president of the high school's Associated Student Body (ASB). Her interest in student government began when she was the freshman class president. Now as spokesperson for all the students, Zaira excels with her strong speaking ability and mature outlook on life. Helping to sharpen her skills and sense of responsibility is the leadership class she takes at the high school, which is one of her favorites. She is also enrolled in Running Start at Skagit Valley College where she takes psychology and a class known as !st Quarter Experience which prepares students for navigating the ins and outs of college studies.

Zaira is excited for basketball season at school. She was on the junior varsity team her junior year and is planning on varsity this year. Outside of school Zaira is part of the worship team at the church she attends. She is also busy with babysitting both at home and away.

Karina and Carlos Najera-Davalos are Zaira's proud parents. She has two younger siblings, Carlos Jr ,. who is sixteen, and four-year-old Camila. Zaira attributes much of her success in life to the close family relationships that her parents have established. Speaking of success, Zaira plans to continue at Skagit Valley College and work part-time after graduation. It is her goal to complete her undergrad degree at Western Washington University, where she will study to become a mental health counselor.

Zaira will receive a gift certificate to Vintage La Conner Thrift, the thrift shop run by local volunteers to support women and girls in the community and enabled by generous donations from the community.
