Senior softball players Chloe Edwards and Jamie Damien-Sams were honored prior to the game last Tuesday. The senior duo was joined by parents Ida Edwards (left), Josiane Sams (center) and William Damien (right). Edwards and Damien-Sams each received from coaches Loran James and Taysha James-Sherman a floral arrangement and jars containing dirt from the infield where they've played since eighth grade.

All's well that ends well.

That sums up the 2023 season for La Conner High School's youthful baseball and softball teams, both wrapping up the campaign with non-league home wins over Muckleshoot Tribal School on Thursday.

The Braves, with no seniors this year, finished 5-11 overall and 3-10 in conference action following a 17-6 triumph over Muckleshoot.

Braves pitchers Logan Burks and Kenai Zimmerman checked the Kings on three hits and fanned four batters.

Brogan Masonholder paced the La Conner attack with three singles and three runs scored. Hadden Zimmerman and eighth grader Kaleb Otis delivered two base hits apiece. C.J. Edwards lined a double and scored twice while Brayden Pedroza, David Holt and Kamien Lopez each had singles.

The Lady Braves (3-16; 2-9), with just two seniors – Chloe Edwards and Jamie Damien-Sams – in the lineup, edged Muckleshoot 24-20. All three victories this spring came in slugfests. La Conner had swept league rival Concrete by scores of 35-27 and 32-27.

Edwards – the team's starting pitcher – and Damien-Sams were honored during Senior Day ceremonies prior to a home doubleheader with league title winner Friday Harbor the previous Tuesday.
