Avery Sloniker is the Soroptimist Honored Student for November. Avery is a senior at La Conner High School. This busy young woman is also a full time Running Start student at Skagit Valley College and enjoys sports and doing volunteer work.

Avery is studying history, psychology and, her favorite class, political science at SVC. To stay connected with her friends at the high school Avery participates in the school band where she plays the trombone. She also is enrolled in Advisory at the high school.

Avery has played basketball since 5th grade and has also played soccer and volleyball. One of Avery’s favorite volunteer activities is working with elementary students at youth sport camps and tournaments. She has also volunteered at the La Conner Food Bank, worked on a political campaign and she helps her grandma pick up litter.

Avery would like to go to either the University of Hawaii at Manoa or the University of Washington for her undergrad degree and then get her master’s in psychology. She wants to be a high school guidance counselor. She enjoys being in the school setting and she wants to guide students through the process of choosing a college or career. Avery thinks it would be ideal to be a counselor in La Conner.

Avery’s proud mom is Annie McCoy, the La Conner Elementary School secretary. Avery’s younger sister, Aubrie, is a junior at La Conner High School. Avery also has an older brother, Adrian, and a baby sister, Luna. Zoey, the family dog, lets Avery take care of and spoil her.

Avery is a hard-working, organized student who has a good plan for achieving her objectives. She has a positive attitude about being a “virtual” student and does not let this change in learning affect her reaching her goals. We wish her much success.

Avery has been presented a gift certificate to the Vintage La Conner Thrift and Consignment shop, a Soroptimist shop run by volunteers for the benefit of women and students in the community - and made possible by the generous donations of the community.
