Life on the Ridge and Nuggets from Norway

January 1, 1970

As a child, Mickey Bambrick dreamed of being a writer. Erma Bombeck was her idol. She longed to become a columnist, writing about everyday life.

Knowing journalism was a competitive field and didn’t always pay well, she was swayed into the field of computer management after she graduated fromPomonaCollege.

Far too many years of corporate life passed before she gave it all up, married a Norwegian, and eventually transitioned into being a “homeschool mom.” From 2008-09 she and her family lived inNorwayfor a year and now return annually for months at a time.

Her observations about life inNorwaybecame her first feature column as “Nuggets fromNorway” struck a chord with the locals who share her love for all things Norwegian.

That column won 2nd place for Best Feature Column in 2011 and 2012 in the Washington Better Newspaper competition.

Her newest column, “Life on the Ridge,” debuted February 2013, and won 2nd place for Best Feature Column in 2013.

Mickey loves God, her family, traveling, writing, entertaining, genealogy research and public speaking.

She’s been published in several magazines as well as “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books. She’s “livin’ the dream” on Pleasant Ridge.
