Marina Moorings

People always wonder if they are getting good value when they buy major items such as boats. One thing I have noticed in the marina is a surprising number of Tollycraft boats, from 26 up to 52 feet and all sizes in between. On B dock there are even two twin vessels moored right next to each other. I counted, and we have over 30 Tollycraft still actively moored with us. That is remarkable for a boatbuilding company that stopped operating in 1997, 26 years ago. The nice thing about Tollycraft is how many owners I see out enjoying their time on the water and how many of them look almost new. Of course there is the odd repair, but that is the product of age and use.

Maybe I notice Tollycraft more because my parents have a Tolly 32. They have it out for much of the summer and really enjoy it, especially when they have a grandchild or two to enjoy it with them. On the other hand, they have also met some of our marina-based repair professionals, who have been able to get them back on their way more than once. But overall they have had a great boating experience with their Tollycraft, and they do not question the value of their purchase.

And on the boat theme, there is no shortage of new boats in the marina, either. This week Munson Boats brought down a new fire boat for sea trials, a really capable service vessel with a ramp on the bow and twin jet drives so they can go in the shallows. There have also been numerous Bristol Bay commercial fishing vessels in and out all week. These boats are super high-tech pieces of equipment these days, with cutting edge electronics and hydraulic systems and massively powerful jet drives all in gleaming new aluminum – very striking! They certainly stand out.

We are seeing a lot more transient vessels on the guest moorage docks this week. The nice weather seems to be drawing people out onto the water. I am seeing a lot of smiles after a long winter! Additionally, every day there are a lot of people out walking and riding bicycles around the Port property. We are always glad to see people out enjoying our facilities.

See you on the Channel!
