First history museum talk on unique Skagit characters March 19

 


The Skagit County History Museum talk, “Smugglers, Rumrunners and Pirates” by local historian Dr. Jesse Kennedy III is March 19, 2-4 p.m. at Skagit City School. It is the first of three presentations he is giving this spring under the theme of “Denizens of the North Cascades and the Salish Sea,” histories of unique Skagit characters. Kennedy will first share stories of early maritime trades that began with canoes bringing Canadian whisky to the soldiers on San Juan Island and continues today.

“Pioneers of the Upper Skagit” explores early characters who eked out a living in the mountains of the North Cascades, April 24.

“Living and Dying in the North Cascades” offers stories of survival and death in the mountains where they lived and toiled, May 21.

Cost: $5 adults, $4 seniors, members free. Skagit City School is at 17508 Moore Road, Mount Vernon.
