Skagit County transfer site OPEN

August 24, 2022

The Skagit County transfer and recycling station on Ovenell Road fully reopened Aug. 17, a County press release announced Aug. 16.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience during this extended closure,” said Margo Gillaspy, Skagit County Solid Waste Division manager. “I know this closure derailed plans and cost people time and money.”

The transfer station closed to self-haulers of garbage Aug. 11 due to equipment breakage at the rail spur operated by Republic, the County’s disposal contractor. “Without that equipment, we were unable to load or unload containers onto rail cars. With our current garbage pile-up, we simply ran out of room,” said Gillaspy. The site remained open to commercial haulers, recycling, appliance drop-off and household hazardous waste.

Normal hours of operation for garbage, recycling, appliances drop-off: Monday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. The household hazardous waste facility onsite is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
