The Town of La Conner opened a cooling station at its fire station on Chilberg Road Tuesday afternoon, offering area residents a relief from the week's weather. It is open 12-5 p.m. through Friday or as long as the high temperature persist, said Town Administrator Scott Thomas.

Skagit County and state of Washington health department issued news releases Monday and Tuesday, the state’s headline reading “Extreme heat expected through the week” with predicted daytime temperatures in the 90s or over 100 degrees in some places. A Heat Advisory is in effect in western parts of the state from the National Weather Service . The heat will persist through Friday.

The state health department warns that extreme heat is the deadliest weather-related hazard in the United States. In 2021 an unprecedented heat dome event in late June to early July contributed to over 100 deaths in Washington.

The department urges people to take precautions to stay cool, healthy, and safe and note a few hours in an air-conditioned environment can help relieve heat stress.

• Fire station on Chilberg Road: Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 p.m.

Mount Vernon

• Lincoln Theatre: Monday-Friday, 3-5 p.m.
• Kiwanis Park Spray Pad: Daily, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Burlington

• Public Library: Monday, Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Anacortes

• Storvik Park Spray Pad: Daily, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Senior Center: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Public Library: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
