La Conner High School track standout Ellie Marble has qualified in four events at what will be the first state 2B track and field meet in three years starting Thursday, May 26 at Eastern Washington University.

She will compete at Cheney in the 300-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump and 4x200 meter relay after having helped lead the Lady Braves to a second-place team finish at bi-district trials in Chehalis last week.

Marble placed second in the shot, fourth in the 300 hurdles, fifth in the high jump and ran a leg of the 800-meter relay that took top honors.

As a team, the Lady Braves were runners-up to Raymond, which outpointed La Conner 182-122.

At state, there will be 16 entrants in each girls’ event. Those placing seventh or better at Chehalis punched tickets to Cheney for May 26-28.

Marble is joined by eight teammates, including her relay cohorts Kaliana Bill, Morgan Huizenga and Mari Waltner.

Waltner also qualified with a third-place finish in the 100 meters and by teaming with Hannah Cook, Rachel Cram and Huizenga to clinch fifth place in the sprint relay.

Bill advanced by placing sixth in the triple jump, seventh in the long jump, and combining with Sarah Cook, Cram and Huizenga on a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

Sarah Cook made state in javelin, placing fourth. Emma Keller likewise qualified in the javelin, finishing seventh.

Hannah Cook and Cram’s seventh place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump qualify them.

Delaney Cobbs placed sixth in the discus to secure her spot.

On the boys’ side, La Conner finished 14th at bi-districts with 38 points, a crown captured by Rainier, whose 170 points topped the team leaderboard.

Braves hurdler Tommy Murdock earned state bids in both the 110s and 300s. Murdock won silver in the 300 hurdles and bronze in the 110 hurdles.

The Braves sprint relay and mile relay squads placed seventh and narrowly missed advancing.
