CURTIS ANTHONY BUHER

Curtis (Curt) Anthony Buher passed away peacefully on December 20, 2021 at his home on Pleasant Ridge near La Conner, Washington. He was 66 years old. After being diagnosed with brain cancer in the Spring, Curt was able to spend his last months with family and friends.

Curt was born Sept. 23, 1955 in Bremerton, Washington, to Donald and Juanita Buher. He was the youngest of four children. Curt grew up across the street from the town tennis courts and began playing with a shortened racquet when he was just five years old. He joined the West Bremerton High School Tennis Team as a freshman and earned an entire box of trophies that moved with him throughout the years.

Family was a priority for the Buhers when Curt was growing up. He told many stories of trips in the family station wagon, across the pass to Cashmere to see grandparents, or south to Condon, Oregon, to visit aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family remained a priority for Curt throughout his life. He was committed to his obligations as a husband, father, and grandfather.

Curt graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering but chose to pursue his interest in construction by establishing Atlas Construction in 1983. He was a craftsman who had a passion for renovating historic homes throughout the Valley, including several of the houses the family lived in over the years.

Curt retired in 2006. He served as a Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Commissioner from 2008 to 2021. Curt was a member of the National Meningitis Association and encouraged everyone to vaccinate against that deadly disease. He spent many of his days playing a good game of cribbage and meeting with friends for Saturday morning coffee.

Curt leaves behind his wife, Lori (Loveless) Buher of 43 years, and their three children: Eric; Anne, her husband Eldridge, and their daughter Evelyn; and Carl, his wife Anna, and their son Luca. He was pleased to welcome grandchildren Evelyn and Luca in the Spring of 2020, born just two weeks apart. They brought a smile to his face even in his very last days. Also surviving are sister Catherine (Keith) Wyman of La Conner, and brothers Greg (Marilyn) and Ken (Kathy) Buher, of Port Orchard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Curt often commented that obituaries glorified their subject while omitting any negative qualities. Well, Curt was a quiet man, quick witted with a dry sense of humor; was slow to anger but also slow to forgive, and was sometimes just a little judgmental. There you go, Curtis!

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, 1:00 PM at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Drive, Suite A, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 or the La Conner Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 1277, La Conner, WA 98257.
