Weather conditions have closed the Skagit Public Health county fairgrounds COVID-19 testing site through Dec. 29,. Opening Dec. 30 is weather dependent. Staff plan to run the 3-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3 shift for free coronavirus testing antigen to people who are currently symptomatic or have been recently exposed to COVID-19.

When cold weather prevents testing at the fairgrounds, staff will provide no-cost at-home testing kits to those who meet the site’s testing criteria: live, work, or go to school in Skagit County and are currently symptomatic or recently exposed to COVID-19. Kits are limited to one per vehicle, with two tests per kit.

Skagit Public Health ran out of its inventory of free at home COVID-19 testing kits, a program it started Dec. 20 making kits available through website signup. It had expected to have a one month supply.

The health department cannot verify home test results and is not able to provide record of a positive or negative test for those needing proof for their employer, since individuals will be administering their own tests.

Public Health staff will contact people who have made an appointment for a pediatric or booster vaccine at the Fairgrounds through Dec. 30 for rescheduling.

The downtown Skagit Public Health clinic has COVID-19 booster doses of Pfizer, Moderna, or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine available by appointment at 700 S 2nd Street (3rd floor), Mount Vernon, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Appointments are available to everyone 18 years and older who are at least six months past completion of their Moderna or Pfizer vaccine series or received their single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine before November.
