Ellie Marble is a big hit with La Conner High volleyball fans.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is a huge fan, too.

The WIAA selected Marble for Athlete of the Week honors based on her stellar play at the recent Capital City Invitational Tournament in Olympia.

Marble helped La Conner place third among 17 tourney teams from all enrollment classifications. She compiled 119 digs and 109 kills, served at a 98 per cent clip and was 77 of 77 on serve receives.

“Marble has been a force and strong leader on and off the court for La Conner High School this season,” the WIAA said in its weekly news release. “As (team) captain, she led her team not only physically, but mentally as well. Marble is self-motivated, confident, passionate, knowledgeable and willing to do what’s best for her team.”

A 6’-0” junior outside hitter and reigning NW2B Most Valuable Player, Marble is a campus leader as well. She is an ‘A’ student who has also served as a class officer – further evidence of why she is on the WIAA’s radar.

Each week the WIAA and Gesa Credit Union recognizes student-athletes for outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities.

Eligible recipients, such as Marble, must be in good academic standing to be considered for the statewide WIAA honor.

As a WIAA Athlete of the Week honoree, Marble will receive a letter of recognition from the association’s executive director, a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card from Dick’s Sporting Goods courtesy of Gesa Credit Union.

Marble also competes in basketball and track-and-field at La Conner High.

“I’m a committed three-sport athlete, always striving for excellence in everything,” she said in a recruiting profile provided to the Connect Volleyball website.

The WIAA leadership couldn’t agree more.
