Commenting on the death Aug. 10 of Lorraine Loomis, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Chairman Steve Edwards said, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of our beloved elder, Lorraine Loomis this morning. Lorraine was not only the director of the Swinomish Fisheries program for more than forty-five years and the chair of the Northwest Indian Fish Commission, she was also the revered matriarch of a large Swinomish family. Please join us in prayers for her family in the difficult days ahead. We will share future plans as they become available.”
