This corrects and updates the story in today’s May 26 print edition

La Conner voters will have a choice to keep or replace the three Town Councilmembers in November’s elections. The Weekly News was in error in its story “La Conner officeholders run unopposed” in the print edition. Two candidates filed for each council position. They are Position 2, Ivan Carlson running against incumbent John Leaver; Rick Dole challenging incumbent Bill Stokes for Position 3; and incumbent MaryLee Chamberlain facing Glen Johnson for Position 4.

With only two candidates contesting a seat, there will not be an August primary.

MaryLee Chamberlain also has a greater La Conner history, having lived in the area since the late 1980s and sent her children to La Conner’s schools. She moved to town in 1998 and was appointed to council in 2014.

Other corrections for the final candidates filing list:

There will be competition in Fire District 13. Eric Day is running for Fire District 13 Commissioner Position 2 against John Doyle for a six year term. Doyle was appointed in April. Jeremy Wilbur is not on this ballot. He stands for election as a La Conner school district director and cannot run for two offices in the same election. Bobbie Scopa will become the Fire District 13 Position 3 Commissioner, winning a six year term. He is unopposed.

For Bayview’s Fire District 12, it is Kelly Hawley running unopposed for a six year term in Position 3.

Two years after two incumbent for La Conner school district board of directors were defeated in the 2019 elections, three directors are running unchallenged. All were appointed to their positions. They now will win election when they vote for themselves in the fall.

District 2 Director Amanda Bourgeois will fill an unexpired two year term, District 3 Director Jeremy Wilbur gains a full four-year term. District 5 Director Susan Gardner Deyo will also win a four-year term,

In Fire District 2, Ken Bergsma continues in the two year unexpired term for Position 2 and Lance Masonholder gains a six year term for Position 3.

Tim Goodman will have a six year full term as Position 1 Commissioner in Cemetery District 1.

Jon Petrich will win his second term as Port of Anacortes Commissioner Position 2, which includes the Marche Pointe and Swinomish peninsulas and north along Padilla Bay.
