Town Councilmember and First on First advocate John Leaver summarized the group’s April 3 first Saturday effort as “mixed results, partially due to somewhat chilly weather as well as a reduced vendor count and no music in Gilkey Square.”

He called two new vendors exciting: SAFIUCHI showing her display of art and Dave McCormick with custom made “beer flites:” wood based mantles for 4-5.5 ounce beer tasting glasses.

Youngsters again enjoyed chalk art on Gilkey Square’s “Concrete Canvas,” including at least one from Seattle.

Leaver reported music in abundance, with Rick Fogel again at the Fire Department Museum and Mike Bucy playing guitar on the boardwalk behind his wife Mari’s Waterfront Day Spa. “The bigger music story,” noted Leaver, was “J.P. Falcon Grady strumming and singing on the Galleria deck and drawing a sizable crowd accompanied by local Jim Matthews” on the electric bass.

Artists Dorothy Bird and Mel Leibold sold their wares in a tent in the Caravan Gallery courtyard. Jay Bowen exhibited at Meg Holgate’s FORUM Arts gallery.

“Music in May” is the First on Firsters May theme.

In Annie Taylor’s Crescent Moon parking lot, a community garage sale brought locals out. The Rotary Club of La Conner sold $500 worth of tulips.

Marty Pease also reported she was really pleased with the number of people walking through in the short time she was there.

The May 1 theme is “Potpourri: A little everything” for La Conner United organizers at the Morris Street space.
