TDS in La Conner (Trump Derangement Syndrome)

September 16, 2020

Wanting to be more politically active this year, I asked a friend if I could post a local candidate’s sign in his yard. As I was preparing to set it up, my friend pointed to a Trump sign and said, “I would love to post that one, but I am afraid of what might happen if I did.” I received the same reaction from another friend. After seeing the sign for Trump on McLean Road vandalized many times, I can understand their fears.

I decided to test the “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in La Conner by placing a large Trump MAGA flag on my classic 1963 Studebaker and driving it through town. Halfway down First Street, a man started shouting at me, so I stopped and listened to him. He was standing next to a prominent town official while yelling that I “should go back to where I came from,” and “we don’t want your kind around here!” I responded that, “I live here!” I drove on and stopped on Morris Street. There, while getting out of my car, the same individual drove up and stopped and continued to yell at me (but I couldn’t understand what he said that time), before continuing on his way.

Yes, Trump Derangement Syndrome is alive and well in La Conner!

The Peace and Love protests displayed in the 1960s, have been replaced by Hate, Rage and Destruction in 2020 protests!

We need to pray for peace and teach the Golden Rule so that everyone can feel free to display their political views without fear.
